SMJ Distributes 1,000 Donation Packages in Berau
PT Sumber Mitra Jaya hopes to alleviate the burdens of the communities affected by the pandemic.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected everyone from all walks of life. In order to alleviate the hardships of those affected, PT Sumber Mitra Jaya (SMJ), a subsidiary of Mitra Jaya Group, has donated 1,000 packages of staple goods in Berau, East Kalimantan on 24 April 2020. The donation is meant to serve the people of several villages that surround SMJ’s mining areas, such as Kampung Pegat Bukur, Rantau Panjang and Teluk Bayur.
Other than staple goods, SMJ has also distributed face masks in an attempt to mitigate the transmission of COVID-19. Human Resources Manager of SMJ and PT Supra Bara Energy, another company under the Mitra Jaya Group, Ms. Nancy Managkot explained to Berau Post, “We’ve distributed 2,000 masks to the communities. We are hopeful that our donation can hit the target and the people who received the help are those who do really need it. At least, with this donation, it can help relieve the burden of the people affected by COVID-19.”
Furthermore, she said, “Especially because one of the known impacts of COVID-19 is job termination. Hopefully this donation can help them.”
SMH has enlisted the help of district government and village chiefs to ensure that the donated packages reach the right people. One of the possible system of distributions is to give the people coupons that can be redeemed in the district office in order to guarantee a more organized distribution, as well as to prioritize the underprivileged. The system will also be put in place to avoid mass crowding that might lead to coronavirus transmission.
Head of Teluk Bayur District Anang Ardiansyah is extremely grateful for the donation packages for his community. “Hopefully this activity can continue in the future. Looking at the value, this is very helpful for the communities,” Mr. Anang said.
